Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our services, bookings, payments and travel arrangements.

01 Private Chef Services

What private chef services do you offer?
We provide private dining experiences, including lunches, dinners, brunches, bespoke events, multi-day chef services, and assignments in villas, private residences or yachts.
Where are you based?
Plated by MD is based on the French Riviera, France, and also provides services throughout France and internationally.
Can I book a chef for one evening?
Yes. We offer individual dining experiences as well as multi-day arrangements, subject to availability.
Can I hire a chef for several days?
Yes. Our services may cover a single experience, several days or an extended stay. Meal schedules, working hours and responsibilities are agreed before confirmation.
Do you cater for private events?
Yes. Private dinners, celebrations, receptions and special occasions can be considered. A bespoke proposal is prepared according to guest numbers and event requirements.
What is the maximum number of guests?
Capacity depends on the menu, available kitchen facilities, location and required staff. Larger groups may require a customised operational arrangement.

02 Menus & Culinary Experience

Can menus be customised?
Yes. Menus can be adapted to your preferences, the season, the occasion and product availability.
Which cuisines do you specialise in?
Our repertoire includes French, Italian, Asian, Japanese, Swedish and American cuisine, ranging from traditional preparations to gastronomic dining.
Can I request a multi-course tasting menu?
Yes. Multi-course dining experiences can be arranged with dishes and service progression tailored to your occasion.
Can you accommodate food allergies?
Food allergies must be disclosed before confirmation. We review possible adaptations and explain any limitations, including potential cross-contact risks.
Do you offer vegetarian or special dietary menus?
Yes, subject to advance notice and menu feasibility. Specific dietary requirements should be communicated during the enquiry.
Do your menus change seasonally?
Yes. We adapt our cuisine to seasonal ingredients and product availability. Significant changes are discussed with the client.

03 Booking & Availability

How do I make a booking?
Check our Availability page, submit your enquiry and provide the relevant details. We will review the request and propose the booking terms.
Does submitting an enquiry guarantee a booking?
No. An enquiry does not constitute a confirmed booking. Confirmation follows acceptance of the applicable terms and receipt of the required payment.
How far in advance should I book?
We recommend booking as early as possible, especially during peak season, weekends and holiday periods.
Do you accept last-minute bookings?
Yes, subject to availability, preparation time and feasibility. Full payment is required for bookings made seven days or fewer before the service.
How can I check availability?
Our availability calendar provides an indication of open dates. Final confirmation is required before any service is considered booked.
Can I change the date or guest count?
Change requests are reviewed according to availability and existing commitments. They may require an updated quotation or revised terms.

04 Pricing & Payments

How are prices calculated?
Pricing depends on the service, duration, guest count, menu, staffing requirements and any additional expenses. Your quotation details the applicable charges.
Is a booking fee required?
Yes. For bookings made more than seven days before the service, a booking fee equal to 30% of the total price is required upon confirmation.
Is the booking fee an additional charge?
No. The 30% booking fee is deducted from the total service price. It is not an additional charge.
When is the remaining balance due?
The remaining 70% balance must be paid in full no later than seven days before the service, unless a different arrangement has been agreed in writing.
What happens when booking within seven days?
Full payment of 100% is required at the time of booking, subject to applicable legal requirements.
Can alternative payment arrangements be made?
Alternative payment schedules may exceptionally be agreed in writing, depending on seasonality, availability and operational requirements. Such arrangements are never automatic.
Are payment conditions stricter during peak season?
During high-demand periods, agreed payment deadlines are strictly applied. Without the required payment, a booking may not be maintained or confirmed under the applicable terms.
Will I receive a quotation before paying?
Yes. The proposal sets out the essential service details, costs and payment conditions.

05 Cancellations & Changes

Is the 30% booking fee refundable?
The booking fee is generally non-refundable when cancellation is initiated by the client. Exceptional circumstances may be reviewed individually, subject to the contract and applicable law.
How do I cancel a booking?
Cancellation requests must be submitted in writing to [email protected]. The applicable conditions are set out in your quotation or agreement, subject to the law.
What happens if the balance is not paid on time?
Failure to pay by the agreed deadline may result in cancellation under the applicable booking terms. Any financial consequences remain subject to the contract and applicable law.
Can I postpone my booking?
Postponements may be considered according to availability, preparations already made and booking conditions. Any change must be confirmed in writing.
What happens in exceptional circumstances?
Exceptional situations are reviewed individually in accordance with legal obligations and the applicable contractual terms.

06 Travel & International Services

Do you work outside the French Riviera?
Yes. We can provide services elsewhere in France and abroad, subject to availability, logistical feasibility and any necessary authorisations.
Can I hire a private chef abroad?
Yes. International assignments can be arranged for villas, residences and private events, including multi-day services.
Are travel expenses included?
Travel within our usual French Riviera operating area is included in our local rates. Outside this area, travel and logistical costs are quoted separately.
Is the chef's accommodation included?
For assignments requiring accommodation, it is not included in our standard rates and must be arranged or covered as specified in the quotation.
Do you operate worldwide?
We consider international requests without a fixed geographical restriction. Each assignment depends on visa and work permit requirements, local regulations and travel safety.
Are visa costs included?
Visa, permit, travel and other necessary administrative costs are assessed before confirmation and specified in the quotation.

07 Service Organisation

Are ingredients included?
This depends on the package. For bespoke private chef arrangements, ingredients are generally charged separately. Exact inclusions are specified in the quotation.
Can the chef purchase the ingredients?
Ingredient sourcing can be arranged as part of the service, depending on the agreed requirements. Ingredient costs and any handling charges are clarified before confirmation.
Do I need a fully equipped kitchen?
Kitchen facilities and equipment must be suitable for the menu and guest count. Requirements are assessed during planning.
Is table service included?
Service staff are not automatically included in every package. Additional staffing or service arrangements can be included in the quotation.
Who handles preparation and clean-up?
Kitchen preparation, service-related organisation and clean-up are defined by the selected package. General housekeeping is not assumed to be included.
Does the chef stay all day?
The chef's presence depends on the agreed package and schedule. A single-meal service does not necessarily include full-day attendance.

08 Yachts & Private Stays

Do you offer yacht chef services?
Yes. Yacht assignments may be arranged depending on itinerary, galley facilities, embarkation conditions and applicable requirements.
Can I book a chef for a holiday villa?
Yes. We offer one-off and multi-day services for private homes and holiday villas.
Can you provide multiple meals during a stay?
Yes. Breakfasts, lunches and dinners can be incorporated into a tailored programme, subject to the agreed schedule, facilities and conditions.
